The Bombay Imagination Room by Bombay Sapphire

November 2013

Prepare to be intrigued, provoked and tantalized with the arrival of the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Gallery appearing in Soweto soon.

Opening from November 15th, the gallery curated by visionary arts group Mashumi Art Projects (MAP) will pop up at one of the most iconic places in the township, the location of the old Panyaza chisa nyama in White City, for just four weeks.

And over that time, the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Gallery will give visitors an opportunity to not only infuse themselves with internationally acclaimed works from some of the finest home grown artists, but also savour a meal or tantalize their ears with cool tunes at the Bombay Sapphire Imagination Room while enjoying a Bombay Sapphire which uses only the finest botanicals created through its special Vapour Infusion process.

Under the direction of MAP’s Zanele Mashumi, each week a different artist is showcased at the gallery – with artists of the ilk of Soweto based Mpumalanga born fine artist Kenny Nkosi, internationally award winning photographer Jodi Bieber and pioneering painter David Koloane, whose works are part of a number of collections worldwide, all part of the roster.

The gallery reflects recognition of Soweto as an artistic and cultural hub, and gives Sowetans and visitors alike the opportunity to interact with art in an emotive setting.

“We want to start a movement of bringing art to the township, “ explains Mashumi about the gallery, which is located at 1394 Vundla Drive.

“Bombay Sapphire is proud to be associated with such a great concept which is infused with imagination in highlighting the finest South African art, “ said Leigh Hofmeyr, marketing manager for Bombay Sapphire.

The Bombay Sapphire Imagination Gallery launches on November 14th, with the gallery open to the public from November 15th.

Each week a different artist is showcased at the gallery while every Saturday the Bombay Sapphire Imagine Room will host Bombay Brunches while on Sunday, Sapphire Sundays see DJ Kenthero play host for that last drink before a Monday.
