Sizani Baloyi

Sizani Baloyi was born on the 1994 in Limpopo in a town called Giyani. In 2002 he moved to Johannesburg and studied at KlipValley Primary School where he also won computers for the school on an art competition. He studied at PJ Simelane secondary school and was top of his class for the visual arts program and graduated in 2014.

Soon after that he completed a three year visual arts and printmaking course at Artist Proof Studio in Newtown, Johannesburg where he won the council of chambers competition. He is one of the artists who was selected to work with Strauss&Co to rework one of the old masterswork Jacobus HendrikPierneef. He graduated 2017 and took part of a 6 months internship with William Kentridge. He is now a fulltime practicing.

Baloyi's style and technique ranges from very refined ink drawings, steel sculptures to sophisticated prints. His artwork depicts the challenges that peoples are faced with by interrogating whether rural housing structures in contemporary South Africa have changed for the better since 1994.
